![]() Walker's new partner, Ranger James Trivette ( Clarence Gilyard), has a history with one of the suspects in the robbery. During a bank robbery in Fort Worth, Ranger Cordell Walker's partner Bob Mobley (Steven Ruge) is killed. This two-hour premiere episode introduces Cordell Walker ( Chuck Norris), a contemporary Texas Ranger. But after watching the Walker pilot, it’s hard to want to watch another episode, let alone a full season (which The CW has already ordered).Episodes Pilot season (1993) No. Pilots are, by their very nature, incredibly hard to pull off well: a lot of establishing information has to be given to the audience while also introducing the plot in a way that invites continued investment. The seeds planted feel generic, and the more timely elements - like the situation at the border - not particularly well-engaged. It’s hard to see a world wherein this show gets interesting, based on the pilot alone. The more procedural case of the week is little more than set-up for an ominous drug cartel and a tiny, not particularly impressive fight. Problems are not really problems, and the exposition we get from these moments lands with a thud. The inclusion of these new parts doesn’t really add much interest to what plays out, in the end: a bunch of inconsequential, family drama filler. Unfortunately, he’s also not handling it in a particularly interesting or edifying manner, either. And guess what? He’s not handling any of it well. Ramirez, too, has a lot riding on her new partner and his ability to follow orders and not ruin her chances in an extremely white, male-dominated profession. Now that he’s returned home from an undercover assignment after two years away - seemingly immediately following the death of his wife - there’s a lot of tension with his kids and the rest of his family who stepped in to fill the void while he was gone. The Ranger’s new partner, Micki Ramirez (played by The 100’s Lindsey Morgan), also plays a fairly large role in Walker’s life. The show, its showrunner Anna Fricke posited during a recent Television Critics Association panel, is about the entire Walker family. But not even the charm of Padalecki can liven up this one-trick pony. (The show even shoots in the actor’s hometown of Austin, Texas). ![]() This is clearly the reason the series was made: to keep one of its bread-and-butter attractions on the network and happily employed. In place of Norris’ cheeseball “badass” is the much softer, more subdued Supernatural star Jared Padalecki. Gone is the ass-kicking Cordell Walker fans of the old series are used to in his place is a tired, possibly alcoholic widower who - we are told but only once is it allegedly really seen - plays by his own rules. Alas, that doesn’t mean what we get is much better. In short, The CW's Walker is the complete antithesis of everything the older version was, which itself wasn’t particularly good. In fact, there is nary a similarity at all to its predecessor, save the name Cordell Walker, and the fact that he is indeed a Texas Ranger. The CW’s take is absolutely nothing like that. It was very much a series of its era and home network, CBS. Imbued in all of this was an often cheesy, overriding sense of machismo - ass-kicking and bad guy-busting in the name of protecting the good ol’ US of A. Its lead, Chuck Norris, is a very specific man. ![]() Walker, Texas Ranger was a very specific show with a very specific audience from a very specific time. ![]() The choices for art tablets are aplenty for both amateur and veteran designers, so artists looking to invest in one should carefully compare each model’s features and prices before making a decision. ![]() This is lonely work, and sometimes you need a friend - even if he’s yourself. He even tries to resurrect the dead, conjuring Tupac on “Mortal Man,” just to have a chat. It’s not that Kendrick Lamar is schizophrenic, it’s that he needs to make his own reflection. Think DMX in a bargain with the devil on “Damien.” Nicki Minaj exacts “Roman’s Revenge.” Eminem loses his mind over and over again. Think Biggie on “Gimme the Loot,” as both ends of a two-man stickup. Rappers change their voices all the time. On “The Blacker the Berry,” he is a fire-parched dragon. On “King Kunta,” he is a rasping colossus. On “Institutionalized,” he applies the double-tracked Marvin the Martian alien purr we first heard on Drake’s “Buried Alive (Interlude).” On “Hood Politics,” that voice goes up a key, a squeaking Chihuahua - “boo-boo!” - yapping into the maw. On “For Sale? (Interlude),” he affects a satanic Jimmy Cagney–esque carnival barker. He shatters his persona over and over again, transmitting the change with a new voice. This is a different rapper, but the same. “I know your secrets, n---- / Mood swings is frequent, n----,” he raps. ![]() Halfway through “u,” his urgent voice - like a scratched cast-iron pot - transforms into something exasperated, tearful, frustrated, drunk, confused. ![]() All work and no play makes Kendrick a dull boy, so the cracks start to show. There are dozens of collaborators on To Pimp a Butterfly, but there is only one author. He wants to speak for those who can’t, speak to the pain others won’t. But he rarely pushes beyond the cocoon - of his cohorts, his friends, beyond the dreaded follow-up album into something transcendent. It’s not that Kendrick doesn’t see the world clearly or can’t measure the inseam of his life. But bubbles aren’t reflective they distort what surrounds them. In Kendrick Lamar’s case, the bubble is meant to reflect everything that surrounds it. Sometimes that fosters a kind of manic rebellion or a bacchanalia. But when it comes to making the thing, it’s happening in secret, solitudinous, under house arrest. Not where it’s conceived, or where it’s informed. Huddled in a booth, in a wood-paneled mausoleum, in a nondescript office building - that’s where most rap is made. Sean Fennessey: Rap is one of the loneliest arts. Some (mostly older) PCs use a Master Boot Record (MBR) disk layout and work with BIOS to perform what’s now called a “legacy boot.” Other (mostly newer) PCs use a GUID Partition Table (GPT) disk layout and work with UEFI to perform what’s called a “UEFI boot” or “EFI boot.” Some of the details involved in managing boot vary according to the type of boot (legacy vs. There are two major variations on the Windows boot theme. That boot loader accesses the EFI partition on the default or designated boot drive, and uses the BCD information to start booting the OS so it can take over control of the PC. When a PC begins booting, a firmware-based bootstrap loader starts the boot process and then hands the process over to the Windows Boot Loader (you’ll see this latter program referenced as a line item in your BIOS or UEFI boot information, usually as the default OS boot entry). You will also find a copy of this file in the Windows Side-by-Side (WinSxS) directory hierarchy. The BCD information resides in a data file named bootmgfw.efi in the EFI partition in the EFIMicrosoftBoot folder. In fact, BCD is best understood as a firmware-independent database for boot-time configuration data. Windows OS load behavior was substantially reworked in 2004, when Vista was still code-named “Longhorn” to support EFI and to overhaul the earlier NTLDR (“NT Loader”) architecture used in preceding versions of Windows NT. Use of boot configuration data, or BCD, and the Windows bootloader was introduced with Windows Vista. What the error tells you is nothing to do with what is actually wrong.Understanding the modern Windows boot process This is another prime example of coders at Microsoft writing error syntax for themselves rather than users. It is much better to resolve the error with the correct paths than by creating a referral shortcut but it works when you need it to. This is a less that optimal solution but can get the job done.
So, sadly, I don't expect translations patch to see the light because it would be much easier to crack a localised version of this game and make it to run properly than patch the GoG version to translate it. And it seems things are extremely complicated. Shade: I gave a look to this, because as fan and owner of the original french PC version of this game, I wanted to propose a FR patch. Seems it was the case with Italy too.Īnyway, this isn't even considering the official German and French PC versions Microsoft released back in the day, so it's hard to consider they would import the Spanish and Italian localizations from the PlayStation version. In Spain, the PC version was released completely in English, despite the PlayStation version being released completely in Spanish. They skipped the Spanish and Italian translations and dubs though, I supposed due to lack of interest of Microsoft on those markets. They released it in English, German and French, using the full dubs done by Konami. Microsoft released the original PC version back in 2000. The only thing different from the dubbed PS1 version was that the intro as well as the character name displays in cutscens still listed the english VAs instead of the german ones, which was just an additional tease. At the moment, I only consider the radio.dat.ĭifference ? The GoG one is filled with plenty zeros. Most part is stored in radio.dat, some is in *.dmo and *.vox. And generally speaking, for an unknow reason, these change work inconstantly. But if you replace them, dubbed cinematics will freeze at one point (but won't crash the game). If you replace the EN with the FR one, it breaks codec animations (lip movements and text scrolling), but at least game works and voice plays fine, excepted the ones during cinematics : they're contained in the *.dmo files. 2 (vc319014.vox & vc717041.vox) are exclusive to the french version (no idea of what they contain, I didn't try to convert these files to *.wav though I know it's possible), a lot more (116) are exclusive to the EN ver. Main issue is between EN and FR, there isn't the same files number. Voices : they're stored in the *.vox files.
